About

Let me take a moment to introduce myself.  My name is Elizabeth LaFleur, and I live with my beautiful family in Des Moines, IA.  I am a full-time mommy of two amazing kids, a
wife, a small business owner, and a part-time prenatal chiropractor (for now).  I felt an urge to begin blogging because I needed an outlet to share my emotions – the joy,
excitement, frustrations, funny times, hard times…you know, the roller coaster of emotions that go along with being a parent.  I often have a power struggle whether I should be practicing more, but I always deduce that being there for my kids is the right thing for me to be doing for now. I will always have the opportunity to go back to practice full-time, but I will never get back these wonderful moments of watching my littles grow up.

Let’s rewind a bit…I got off track.  More of my back story.  I grew up in a small east central Illinois town.  The kind of townwhere you know everyone in it, and you know what they had for breakfast that day.  Not really, but sometimes it seemed that way.  I had a great childhood and wonderful family.  I was involved in many sports and activities.  I did pretty well both academically and athletically which I feel made me a target often for some unwarranted chatter, but I digress.  I am just glad that social media was not around when I was in high school – yeesh!    I went off to undergrad to the University of Illinois where I was a member of the U of I cheerleading team and obtained a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology.  I joined the 5 year club – my parents were pretty happy about that!    Shortly after my stent in undergrad, I continued my education at Palmer College of Chiropractic where I worked my butt off studying, had A LOT of fun, and made some amazing, life long friends – including meeting my husband!  I did pretty well there too – graduating summa cum laude,  of my graduating class, and obtained several other scholarly honors.  I may have been crazy, but I took my part 4 board exams, got married, and graduated all within the last 2 weeks of being in school!  Whoa!

My husband and I stuck around for another year because he was a few trimesters behind me in school.  When it came time to figure out where we wanted to settle down, we chose Des Moines, IA.  It just had a good feeling about it – small town feel, but big city activities.  The decision did not come without worry, however, being so far away from family continues to be hard.  We built and started a practice from scratch – lots of hours and work.  Our primary focus at that time was sports chiropractic.  Once I had my first child, my experience lead me to switch gears and focus on prenatal and pediatric chiropractic, and there is no turning back!  I feel we need to take back our birth – trust in our own physiology – stop treating pregnancy like a disease.  So, when I am not a mommy at home, I am in the office empowering women to own their pregnancy and birth experience.
